Atlanta Hawks vs Sacramento Kings

Atlanta (3-1) at Sacramento (1-3)

One key to a good start for the Atlanta Hawks will be playing well on the road.

The Hawks look for a second consecutive victory and fourth straight over the Sacramento Kings when they continue their four-game road trip Wednesday night.

Two nights after opening the swing with a 118-110 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta (3-1) won 97-91 at Portland on Tuesday. Jamal Crawford(notes) scored 27 points off the bench and Joe Johnson(notes) added 19 for the Hawks, who won despite failing to score at least 100 points for the first time in four contests.

This early road stretch offers Atlanta a chance to start strong, especially with winnable games at Sacramento and Charlotte on Friday to close the trip. The Hawks won their first four road games last season, but finished 16-25 for their 10th straight season with a losing record away from home.

Los Angeles Lakers vs Houston Rockets

Los Angeles (3-1) at Houston (3-1)

Ron Artest(notes) left the Houston Rockets to sign with a Los Angeles Lakers team he felt gave him the best chance to finally win a ring.

Houston, though, is now playing at a high level without Artest and two other superstars - and with former Laker Trevor Ariza(notes).

Artest returns to the Toyota Center on Wednesday night, when Los Angeles faces the Rockets for the first time since the teams’ seven-game series in last season’s Western Conference semifinals.

Acquired in a trade with Sacramento prior to 2008-09, Artest averaged 17.1 points and 5.2 rebounds as the Rockets went 53-29 and advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 12 seasons.

Miami Heat vs Washington Wizards

Miami (3-1) at Washington (2-2)

The Miami Heat won their first three games with solid defense, but they couldn’t slow down the league’s highest-scoring team last time out.

The Heat look to bounce back from their first loss and return to form on the defensive end Wednesday night when they visit a Washington Wizards team that has been inconsistent on offense.

Miami (3-1) was 12 minutes away from opening with four straight wins for the first time since 2004-05 before falling apart down the stretch in Tuesday’s 104-96 loss to Phoenix.

The Heat led 81-75 after three quarters but couldn’t come up with key stops as the Suns made 10 of 16 shots in the fourth.

Phoenix Suns vs Orlando Magic

With Steve Nash(notes) once again playing like a two-time MVP, the Phoenix Suns have been one of the league’s biggest surprises through the first week of the season.

Nash looks to help the Suns open with five consecutive wins for the first time in 25 years Wednesday night when they visit the Orlando Magic, who return home after suffering their first loss.

After finishing ninth in the Western Conference last season and missing the playoffs for the first time since 2004, Phoenix is one of three remaining undefeated teams in the league in 2009-10. The others - Boston and the Los Angeles Lakers - are the last two NBA champions.

The Suns posted a 104-96 victory over previously unbeaten Miami on Tuesday to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 2004-05. Phoenix hasn’t opened a season with five consecutive victories since 1984-85.

Detroit Pistons vs Toronto Raptors

Detroit (2-2) at Toronto (1-2)

A week into the season, the Detroit Pistons are already trying their best to overcome injuries.

Likely short-handed again, the visiting Pistons try for a second consecutive victory and fifth straight over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.

With Richard Hamilton(notes) and Tayshaun Prince(notes) both sidelined, Ben Gordon(notes) scored 23 points while Rodney Stuckey(notes) and reserve Will Bynum(notes) each added 20 as Detroit (2-2) avoided a third straight loss with an 85-80 home win over Orlando on Tuesday.

The victory was the Pistons’ first in three games without Hamilton, who scored 25 points in a 96-74 season-opening win over Memphis and could miss this contest with an ankle injury.
