Phoenix Suns vs Miami Heat

Phoenix (3-0) at Miami (3-0)

The Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat have very different styles of play, but one thing they have in common is undefeated records.

They won’t have that in common anymore after Tuesday night.

The Suns and Heat both try to avoid their first loss when they meet at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Phoenix and Miami are both off to 3-0 starts, but they’ve gotten there in contrasting fashion. While the Suns are relying on a high-scoring offense, the Heat have been using defense to shut down the opposition.

Miami will try to contain the Suns after holding its last two opponents below 90 points, including a 95-87 home win over Chicago on Sunday.

Orlando Magic vs Detroit Pistons

Orlando (3-0) at Detroit (1-2)
The Detroit Pistons extended their dominance of the Orlando Magic in 2008-09, but it would be difficult to argue they were the better team.

After the first three games of the new season, the Magic once again appear to be one of the conference’s elite, while the Pistons are struggling.

Orlando looks to extend its undefeated start Tuesday - possibly with Vince Carter(notes) back in the lineup - when it visits Detroit, which knows it will be without Richard Hamilton(notes).

The Pistons (1-2) have won 19 of the last 24 meetings against the Magic (3-0), including all three last season. However, after ending Orlando’s playoff runs in 2003, 2007 and 2008, Detroit was left watching the Eastern Conference finals from home while Orlando was defeating Cleveland en route to facing the Lakers in the NBA finals.

Rajon Rondo’s(notes) emergence for the Boston Celtics has earned the point guard a five-year extension. The Philadelphia 76ers, meanwhile, are pretty happy with their new starter at that position.

Rondo and Philadelphia’s Lou Williams form an intriguing matchup of talented young floor leaders Tuesday night as the Sixers try to hand the visiting Celtics their first defeat of the season.

After an impressive postseason and a strong start during which Rondo is averaging 11.8 assists per game, the 23-year-old signed an extension just before the Monday deadline after which he would have become a restricted free agent this summer.

Rondo will hope to make headlines for his on-court performance one game after gaining attention for a strange feud with star New Orleans point guard Chris Paul(notes). The two got tangled under the basket during the second quarter Sunday, and Paul followed Rondo toward Boston’s locker room after the Celtics’ 97-87 victory.

Washington Wizards vs Cleveland Cavaliers

Washington (2-1) at Cleveland (2-2)
The Washington Wizards are still unable to play their three All-Stars on the floor at the same time, but they’ll happily settle for having Gilbert Arenas(notes) and Caron Butler(notes) available against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cleveland, meanwhile, seems to be back at full strength.

The Wizards hope Butler will be back from a one-game absence Tuesday night at Quicken Loans Arena, where the Cavaliers look for a third straight win after being boosted by Delonte West’s(notes) season debut their last time out.

Washington (2-1) thought it was on the verge of being an annual contender in the Eastern Conference after losing a hard-fought six-game series to the Cavaliers (2-2) in the first round of the 2006 NBA playoffs. Instead, injuries to Butler and Arenas hampered the Wizards the next two seasons, which both ended with opening-round exits against Cleveland.
