Charlene Gonzalez welcomes being grandma to stepson Igi Boy's baby
Charlene Gonzalez does not mind becoming a grandparent at the age of 36.
She became a first-time "lola" thanks to her stepson, Luigi "Igi Boy" Muhlach, her husband Aga Muhlach's lovechild with actress-TV host Janice de Belen. Igi Boy's wife Patricia Petil gave birth last May 16 to their first child, Alejandro Miguel.
"We all reach that point in one way or another, some are earlier than the others. It's just that Luigi got married at a young age and he found the right partner at the right time," Charlene told PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview during the launch of her newest endorsement, Facial Care, held this afternoon, May 28, at the Sala Restaurant on Makati Avenue, Makati City.
Charlene also mentioned how glad she is about the coming of a new baby to their family. "Anytime you have a new baby that comes into your life, it's always a blessing. Of course, we're happy for Luigi and his wife," she said.
Although she's not really the mother of Igi Boy, the 1994 Bb. Pilipinas-Universe said she was still able to connect with him. "In the past couple of months, I admit we've gotten a lot closer, to him and his wife. I always tell him na blessing para sa kanya si Patty [Patricia]. And we have a really good relationship now."
What advice did she and Aga give to the young couple?
"We pretty much give them their freedom to decide on whatever they're encountering now," said Charlene. "Kasi, of course, parang he's [Igi Boy] starting his family now and he's still quite young. So, whenever, if they need us, they know that nandiyan lang kami to maybe guide or maybe inspire them if we can. Basta nandiyan lang kami. We're so happy and blessed that in the past year or so, we've gotten a lot closer and it's been nice."
CELEBRATING NINE YEARS. Charlene got excited when PEP asked her what else she wants in her marriage with Aga. It turns out that she will be celebrating her ninth wedding anniversary with the multi-awarded actor tomorrow, May 28.
"It still feels like it's the first year. Yes, it's true!" she exclaimed.
However, Charlene won't be able to have a private time with her husband tomorrow because Aga will be busy taping for his upcoming sitcom with Ai-Ai delas Alas, M3 (Malay Mo Ma-In Love).
But Charlene doesn't mind this.
"We're together every day," she explained. "Unfortunately, for tomorrow, he will be working. But the day after naman, we plan to have dinner out. Okay naman, we're together every day. I said every day is like our anniversary so we don't have to wait on the specific date."
Although Aga and Charlene have been together for nearly a decade, the TV host-actress said they never get tired of each other.
The secret, according to Charlene, "We always tell one another, 'Oh, remember, ha, we're gonna be together forever. We will always be parang magkakasama tayong dalawa, so huwag kang magsawa.' So, we always reassure each other. It's important on a daily basis—that courtship, the words you speak, and be very conscious to never really use hurtful words. So we're very conscious about respect."

Floyd or not, Pacman to retire after Nov. 13 bout
Manny Pacquiao wants to be remembered plainly as "Manny Pacquiao" when he retires after his November 13 bout this year.
The seven world division champion has signified his intentions of hanging up his gloves whether or not he faces the undefeated and thrash-talking Floyd Mayweather Jr. in November.
"I don’t want to retire as a washed-up boxer. At the back of my mind, I've already contemplated on retirement as early as last year," said Pacquiao. "I don’t want to retire from the sport at a time when I'm feeling pains on my body."
Expect popular ring announcer Michael Buffer to add "The Fighting Congressman from the Philippines" to Pacquiao’s growing list of monikers in his ring return this year after the People's Champ won a Congressional seat in the lone legislative district of Sarangani, his wife Jinkee's home province. This page requires a higher version browser For the latest Philippine news stories and videos, visit GMANews.TV And Pacquiao could very well be the new "Lord of the Political Ring" in Sarangani as he became the only professional boxer ever elected into public office after the Filipino boxing icon knocked out the Chiongbian political clan.
But nothing is certain yet for the boxing bout every fight fan wants to see since Top Rank's Bob Arum is still negotiating with Richard Schaefer, his counterpart at Golden Boy Promotions.
Negotiations are now on going for the biggest fight ever since Muhammad Ali and Joe Fraizer went at it at the start of their epic trilogy in boxing almost four decades ago.
"I haven't talked yet to Bob. He's the one negotiating with Mayweather's camp," said Pacquiao. "But I'm sure he's doing everything to make the fight to happen. Everyone wants to see this fight."
According to Pacquiao, the blood test won't be an issue anymore as both camps have already agreed on the terms but there are still other details needed to be ironed out – like the fight purse – but the pound-for-pound boxer declined to give specifics. This page requires a higher version browser For the latest Philippine news stories and videos, visit GMANews.TV Before giving the go signal for Arum to negotiate with the Mayweathers, Pacquiao needed to overcome one hurdle. Convince his mother, Dionisia, who said that she wants Pacquiao to retire or she'll gatecrash her son's match if he doesn't stop fighting.
Surprisingly, Dionisia, whose popularity grew with her champion son, allowed Pacquiao to climb the ring for the last time announcing it during her 61st birthday celebration on May 15.
Perhaps, "Mommy D." knows best that there's no better fight available left for his son than to mix it up with Mayweather Jr., whose mouth is as fast as his fist when he demolished "Sugar" Shane Mosley recently.
"My mom doesn't want me to fight anymore. But I convinced her, to give me one last fight. (After that) I'm already thinking about retirement," said Pacquiao, who said that he wants his last fight to take place either at the Dallas Cowboy Stadium again or at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. – JVP/Rey Joble, GMANews.TV

Pacquiao to receive boxing awards in NY
By Izah Morales, Yahoo! Southeast Asia Wednesday May 26, 2010 02:38 pm PHT
Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao is set to receive the highest honors as Fighter of the Year and Fighter of the Decade from the Boxing Writers Association of America on June 4 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.
"Manny will be leaving on June 1 for New York for the awarding ceremony," Jake Joson, Pacquiao's chief of staff told Yahoo! Southeast Asia in a phone interview, adding, "Okay na naman ngayon si Manny. Pagkatapos nga nyang lumabas sa ospital, nagtaping pa sya sa GMA7 para sa sitcom niyang Show Me da Manny [Manny's fine now. After leaving the hospital, he even went to GMA 7 for a taping of his sitcom, Show Me da Manny]."
This will be Pacquiao's third Fighter of the Year award from the BWAA, tying him with Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield, according to the BWAA website.
Pacquiao's coach, Freddie Roach will likewise receive his fourth "Trainer of the Year" award.
"After the awarding, manonood si Manny ng laban ni Yuri Foreman at ni Miguel Cotto. Kung sinong manalo dun, pwede rin nyang labanan. [After the awarding, Manny will be watching the fight between Brooklyn's Yuri Foreman and Puerto Rico's Miguel Cotto on June 5 at the Yankee Stadium. Whoever wins the bout may be a possible match for Manny]," said Joson.
Joson related that Pacquiao will be having a weeklong vacation with his family in New York before returning to Manila for classes at the University of the Philippines Diliman and as a representative of his province Sarangani.
"Manny will be taking a two-month course sa Public Administration and Governance and will attend regular classes like any student," said Joson.

Cavs coach Brown fired
CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Cavaliers have fired Mike Brown, a source close to the head coach told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.
The Cavaliers had a midnight deadline on Sunday to fire the coach or pay him his full $4.5 million salary for next season.
Cleveland was ousted from the playoffs two weeks ago by the Boston Celtics, who upset the NBA's top regular-season team in six games.
Highest Win Pct, Cavaliers History
Brown, who had one year left on his contract, could be quickly scooped up by one of the five other teams looking for head coaches. Brown has guided the team to the postseason in each of his five seasons. Cleveland's assistants also have one year remaining on their deals.
Brown was the league's coach of the year last season when the Cavs won 66 games. Cleveland lost to Orlando in the conference finals, however, and it was assumed Brown would have to get the team closer to a championship to keep his job.
Instead, the Cavs regressed. They were badly outplayed by the Celtics, who won the last two games played in Cleveland by a combined 50 points. But Cavs owner Dan Gilbert insisted last week that the team didn't quit against Boston.
"It's one of those things that you can't believe it after it's happened," Gilbert said. "I feel bad for the fans more than anybody."
Cleveland's next move will be an interesting one. Because of LeBron James' uncertain future, it's possible the Cavs would want his input into their next coaching hire, assuming the two-time MVP is still considering re-signing with Cleveland when free agency opens in July. The Cavs will have to search for a new coach not knowing if James will be back and would have to go into the draft and free agency without a coach.
James is eligible to opt out of his contract this summer, a move that would make the two-time MVP -- and zero-time NBA champion -- a free agent and set off a scramble for his services from New York to Miami to Los Angeles and, of course, back in Cleveland.

Philippine boxing champ Pacquiao taken to hospital
Philippine boxing hero Manny Pacquiao (L) shows his finger marked with indelible ink after casting his vote at a polling center in Kiamba, Sarangani province, in the southern island of Mindanao on May 10. World boxing champion Pacquiao has been taken to a hospital for a stomach ailment, but his lawyer says it is not serious and that he will likely be out the next day.

MANILA (AFP) - – World boxing champion Manny Pacquiao was taken to a hospital on Sunday for a stomach ailment, but his lawyer said it was not serious and that he would likely be out the next day.
Pacquiao, who was recently elected as a legislator, was taken to a suburban hospital in Manila after feeling pains in his stomach, said lawyer Jesus Gacal.
"It was just his usual acid reflux. The doctor told me there is nothing to worry about," Gacal told AFP.
"There was even no need for him to be confined but he wanted to take a rest after the (election) campaign," the lawyer added.
He said Pacquiao had suffered from this stomach problem before.
The 31-year-old fighter, who was elected on May 10 to represent the impoverished southern province of Sarangani, has been preparing to take up his post in the Philippine parliament.
Boxing promoters are also working to arrange a bout between Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather in November, to settle once and for all the fighters' claim to be the best fighter, pound-for-pound, of his generation.
Pacquiao has said he can handle the simultaneous burdens of being a legislator and training for a major fight, remarking that this required only proper "time management."
Boxing victories as well as his commercial endorsements last year made Pacquiao the world's sixth-highest paid athlete, with earnings of 40 million US dollars, according to Forbes magazine.
